Le Poyenval -
the house and gardens
Le Poyenval is a traditional French country house surrounded
by large attractive gardens
Built in a typical French
style it is a large, imposing house full of interesting shapes
with balconies, tall shuttered windows, and several
outbuildings.
Over 100 years old, it has long played a prominent part in the
life of the village and is known locally as ‘Le Petit
Chateau’.
Inside the house, lounge and
dining areas provide an ideal location to enjoy a French meal
en famille.
Bedrooms (all en suite) are reached via
differently-shaped hallways and staircases.
All rooms are large with imposing high ceilings, many with
spectacular views over the village or surrounding
countryside.
A large garden and private
park surrounds the house with a number of attractive features.
Dotted amongst the lawns low stone walls (the remains of earlier
buildings) mingle with many different types of tree.
There is plenty of space to enjoy a picnic, cool off beside the
outdoor swimming pool, the
boules piste in the garden, or make use of the barbecue and
outdoor eating areas. Fruit and walnut trees grow in abundance,
with an established
potager providing daily fresh
vegetables and soft fruit.
A courtyard, complete with
olive tree, separates the house from a number of old stone
buildings.
One of these - a former coach house - has been fitted
out to create comfortable gites (intended primarily for holiday
accommodation, but also used from time to time to accommodate
language students) and a large barn is in use as a studio and art
gallery.
